Aftercare

Aftercare: implant surgery & dentures

After implant placement

  • Care for the site as you would after an extraction, follow the tooth-removal instructions.
  • Suture removal is done two weeks after implant placement.

Settling into dentures

  • Wear the denture for short durations at first; increase gradually. Eat a soft diet with it.
  • If it feels uncomfortable, remove the denture, massage the area with a clean finger, and try again after a day. If soreness persists, call the clinic for an adjustment.
  • Chew from both sides. Biting with the side teeth gives better stability.
  • Avoid biting with the front teeth, as it can lift the denture off the gums.
  • Rest your tongue on the palate consciously.
  • Pain during swallowing may just need a minor base adjustment.
  • Extra saliva at first is normal and settles down.
  • Practice reading aloud to adjust your speech.

Daily care

  • Clean food debris with a denture brush on the tooth surface; wipe the tissue side with damp cotton.
  • Remove dentures at night and soak them in water.
  • Never ignore irritation or soreness, schedule an appointment immediately.
